Finmeccanica has signed an agreement with the Libyan government to create a joint venture in the
sector of electronics for defence and security, which will see the implementation of innovative solutions
for the Libyan market and the markets of other African countries. Finmeccanica will contribute its
know-how and product and technological expertise in collaboration with local industry. The aim of the
joint venture is to develop integrated critical infrastructure surveillance systems, telecommunications
and homeland security systems, and integrated postal automation systems. The agreement foresees
the possibility of creating joint ventures with local entities for the implementation of operational
This new technological and industrial partnership represents a significant development opportunity for
the Libyan economy and will enable Finmeccanica to strengthen its presence in the electronics for
defence and security - one of its key business areas - in Africa.
Finmeccanica already has an industrial presence in Libya. In January 2006 it signed an agreement,
through its subsidiary AgustaWestland, with the Libyan Company for Aviation Industry, to create a joint
venture (Libyan Italian Advanced Technology Company or L.I.A.TE.C.) for the purpose of developing
aeronautics activities and security systems.
